Tigers symbolize strength and courage in many countries. Nowadays these animals are endangered; as for many years they have been hunted for their fur and other body parts that are used in traditional medicine of China. In some countries tigers are hunted for sport.
Tiger hunting continues today because the body parts can be sold for a lot of money and many people would like to have tiger's coat under their feet instead of a carpet. Several traditional medicines use tiger parts as a cure for all kinds of illnesses, from pimples to toothaches. Although all these "cures" have never been proven to be effective.
Tigers Facts - Animal in Danger
The other problem that the animals face nowadays is the loss of habitat. People move into areas where tigers live. This is why tigers are forced to leave their territories in which they have lived for centuries into smaller and smaller areas where there may not be enough food for these big cats to survive.
There have been researches done that show that there are fewer than 2,500 tigers in the world. A lot of animals are kept in the zoos and there are parks where these animals are preserved. In many countries hunting for tigers is illegal since, in the early 1970s, India began passing laws against killing tigers.
Many countries around the world, including the United States, have passed laws to stop the sale of products made from tiger parts. Although the black market still works and Tiger body parts are still being requested and being sold.
